The Bowden Pioneer Museum is Dedicated to Preserving Local History and Sharing it with all Who Visit.

The Bowden Pioneer Museum is recognized by the Alberta Museums Association.

 

Come Visit the Museum

The Bowden Pioneer Museum opens for the season the last Saturday in May. The Museum is open 11:00 am to 4:00 pm every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday during June, July and August.

Admission is By Donation, under six free. Free Entrance for Museum Members.

Parking is always available at the back of the Museum and along the street. The Museum is fully handicap accessible.

Guided Tours are free with admission and are always available while the Museum is open.

If you wish to visit out of season, tours can be arranged by appointment. To arrange a tour please call Bowden Museum at 403-224-2122.

If you’re visiting Bowden or Central Alberta, consider dropping by the Bowden Pioneer Museum. Its well worth the stop and some of our artifacts might just surprise you.

 

 

Location

The Bowden Pioneer Museum waits for you in the quiet town of Bowden, Alberta. Bowden is on Highway 2 between Innisfail and Olds. Bowden is 33 minutes south of Red Deer on Highway 2 and 1 hour north of Calgary.

The Museum is located in a large, well marked building on the corner of 22nd Street and 19th Avenue.

Easy Directions

North from Calgary

Turn off Highway 2, turn right onto Highway 587 headed west.

Turn left into Bowden on 22nd Street headed south.

Continue straight until 19th Avenue, you will see the museum ahead of you.

 

South from Red Deer

Turn off Highway 2 and continue straight.

Turn right into Bowden on 20th Avenue headed west.

Turn left onto 22nd Street headed south.

Continue one block south, you will see the museum ahead of you.

The Bowden Pioneer Museum also operates a Thrift Shop and holds Garage Sales the last weekend of each month. Donations of clothing, toys and other items are accepted. For more information click the Thrift Shop Button above.

 

The Bowden Historical Society operates the Bowden Pioneer Museum and the Historical St. Matthew's Anglican Church.

The Museum always welcomes the donation of historical artifacts. However we are not currently accepting very large items such as furniture due to limited space. If you have smaller items of historical significance you would like to see preserved and kept for future generations please contact the museum or come visit us. The St. Matthew's Anglican Church is no longer an active church, but the historical building is preserved and used by the Bowden Historical Society. The Thrift Store runs its garage sales out of the St. Matthew's Anglican Church Hall. The St. Matthew's Anglican Church is available for small functions, including weddings. The St. Matthew's Anglican Church is capable of hosting functions of up to 50 people.
